Re: Proposal to close Classical Subjects.

It seems that however well you do in demonstrating the popularity and value of classical subjects at international, national and local level the barbarians just keep coming back: urgent response required
Re: Long Road Sixth Form College
There is a proposal to close provision for classical subjects (A-Level
Classical Civilisation and GCSE short course Latin) in Long Road Sixth
Form College, Cambridge. In the past, there has been a high progression
rate from AS to A2, and from there to classical subjects at higher
education (including Reading, UCL, Warwick, KCL, Roehampton, Cardiff,
Bangor, Liverpool). A proportion of these students have continued to
postgraduate study, including the PGCE in Classics at Cambridge, thus
providing the next generation of Classics teachers.

Your support at this crucial time will be much appreciated. Long Road is
a large state funded sixth form college, serving a wide geographical area,
and taking students of a very wide ability range. These proposals will
effectively debar students from being introduced to and engaging with the
classical world.

A letter of support, informing them of any support you might be able to
provide, may help this cause. Please address letters to:
