Coins 'prove' Roman presence
19/ 3/2008
AN historian has succeeded where Time Team failed… to prove a Cheshire village was once home to the Roman army.
James Balme has found rare silver coins dating back to 100BC in field in Lymm – they would have been used to pay Roman soldiers.
He's been searching for Roman military remains in the area for 10 years.
Last year he was joined by Tony Robinson and the Time Team crew to finally try and answer the mystery.
