THE glory that was Rome was brought back to life at Cradley CE Primary School on Tuesday.

School uniforms were discarded in favour of togas or centurion's
uniforms as the whole school took part in the special Roman day.

“Our Key Stage Two pupils have been studying Rome this term,” said
deputy head Sheila Davis. “But all our pupils have been taking part in
the say, and all the staff as well.

Children took part in everything from making and testing model
chariots to creating a cartoon based on the myths of Rome's founding.

They made Roman-style portraits and mosaics and studied Roman numerals.

They also made and tasted Roman cheesecake, from an authentic recipe, and tried other delicacies, such as dates and olives.

“They enjoyed it a great deal,” said Deane Fieldhouse, the Class Three teacher.

George W and the fake Roman Triumph

There is, I think, an interesting article by Mary Beard in the Times.  It's about George Bush and the Roman Triumph.

I say 'I think' because the web page has an advertisement covering the beginning, which I can't get rid of.

But you may be luckier.

"It's a great time to be a classicist."

The Guardian has a long interview with Mary Beard. Well worth reading.
